Financial Aid & Scholarships
Our First Merit Scholarship
We are pleased to announce that we have awarded our first-ever merit scholarship to ninth grader, Kai J. Bartlette for the 2007-2008 school year.
“After 42 years, this scholarship is an exciting step for our school,” said Shournagh McWeeney, school administrator. “Due to increased donations, we’ve been able to award our first merit scholarship as well as expand our financial aid program for this school year.”
Kai is a 14-year old student who has attended VIMS since age four. A native of St. Thomas, she enjoys mathematics, writing and art, and hopes to be a chef one day. Kai is the daughter of Lorna A. Bartlette and Leo Dyer, St. Thomas.
In October, Kai, Simonique Pearl-Edwards and Nyisha Lewis were invited to participate in the Ocean Conservancy’s six-day Youth Summit, “Future Leaders of the Virgin Islands”. This was an honor for them to participate as ninth graders; the rest were 16 – 24 years old. Chaperones at the summit had praise for the three “young ones”.
Montessori merit scholarships are available to current and new students in grades 7 – 10 and cover up to 50% of tuition. Financial aid is available to students at all levels for up to 50% of tuition. For the 2007/2008 school year, one third of students are receiving financial aid.
To apply, students must take either the Middle Level (7th-8th grade) or Upper Level (9th-10th grade) Independent School’s Entrance Exam (ISEE) from the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). Registration must be done on-line at least three weeks before the test date. Contact the Administration Office for the next ISEE test date and on-line registration instructions.
